Nonfiction is Fun! Try TrueFlix!
September 10, 2012
Finding fun ways to read nonfiction is more exciting for kids, parents, and teachers! Check out TrueFlix to find online Scholastic books that can be read at home, in the car, at school, or anywhere! These books cover a wide range of material, from historical figures like Abraham Lincoln to environmental sciences like the eruption of Krakatoa.
The books can be played in a read-along mode where difficult vocabulary are sounded out and highlighted for the reader, or it can be turned off for advanced readers. After the book is read, a quiz can be taken, and vocabulary games are offered.
Videos can be played that reinforce the information in the books. There are even links to other resources and project ideas for kids to use at school.
For teachers, there are lesson plans available and activities for the classroom. Lexile/Atos are listed under the "Resources and Tools" tab, so you can find just the right book for your reader. TrueFlix is a great way to get your reader excited about reading in a different format.
