A New Chapter
February 15, 2012
In a few days, I will be transitioning to a new way of life; I will retire. This event that I have talked about in terms of someday is now actually here. Along with it came a whole lot of questions, which is kind of scary.
You want to make the right decisions, but are you prepared enough? Talking about Social Security, Medicare, Part B, Part D, and the doughnut hole can be daunting. I have an advantage that not everyone has; I know where to look for the answers to my questions. I drew upon MCPL's excellent resources.
I read many books, and the best was The Social Security and Medicare Handbook by V.R. Leonard. It’s an excellent book that answered many of my questions. I also read magazines in our collection like AARP, Bottom Line, and Kiplinger’s Retirement Report.
I feel much more knowledgeable now. I can’t say for sure that I truly understand the entire doughnut hole business, I’ll have to read more about it, or maybe I’ll just make doughnut holes, that sounds easier!
If you’re planning on retiring anytime soon and you need information, visit your local MCPL branch. We can point you in the right direction or at least to the doughnut cookbooks.
