New Books and New Friends in the New Year

December 17, 2010

The magic of reading appeals to even the newest of readers. Early on, a new reader learns you can travel anywhere you want to simply by reading books, and in the process, peek into the lives of the characters you meet along the way. You learn that when you find a book you either loved so much you could put down or hated with a vengeance, you can't find enough people to talk to about it.

Even as experienced readers, we can find these are the things that make us want to read more and more. If you find yourself looking for a new book and new people to talk to about what you are reading, you may want to check out our book clubs here at the Grandview Branch. In 2011, you might 'travel' to 1790s Philadelphia, Leadville, Colorado in 1879, or from Kingdom County, Vermont to Gatlinburg, Tennessee in 1864 with our 2 book clubs.  You might 'meet' an eleven year old aspiring chemist, an antiquarian bookseller, or the most impossible boss imaginable.

Grandview's Mystery Book Club is facilitated by Leah and meets the 1st Wednesday at 1pm. In January, they will be meeting on January 5th and will be discussing Scent of Rain and Lightning by Nancy Pickard. Our Adult Book Discussion Group is a general fiction group facilitated by Patty and meets on the 3rd Tuesday at 2pm. In January, they will be meeting on January 18th, and will be discussing The Devil Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger.
