Neil Armstrong R.I.P.

August 28, 2012

America lost a true titan of the 20th century last Saturday. Neil Armstrong passed away at the age of 82 due to complications from a heart procedure. Of course, most people know Armstrong from being the first man to walk on the moon, but he was also an accomplished naval aviator during the Korean War and a successful test pilot before he joined the second group of astronauts in 1962.

Neil was a very private man who stayed out of the spotlight as much as he could. However, in 2005, he authorized author James Hansen to write his biography. The result, First Man, is an outstanding look at Armstrong's life and career. There are many more great books about Armstrong and his fellow Apollo astronauts, among them A Man On The Moon by Andrew Chaikin and Apollo: Through The Eyes Of The Astronauts by Robert Horace Jacobs.

Check the nonfiction in the 629s of your local branch for more books about the space program.
