Needle Lace
March 11, 2013
Recently, while watching a travel show, I saw a lady making needle lace in Burano, Italy. I had seen pictures of this lace before, but I didn't know what it was called or how it was made. Well, of course because I’m a crafter, curiosity got the best of me. I logged on to MCPL'S online catalog and discovered that there were several nonfiction books about the history of lace and instructions on making several different kinds.
Mediterranean Knotted Lace by Elena Dickson
Needle Lace: Techniques & Inspiration by Clark Nordfors
Needle-Made Laces and Net Embroideries by Doris Campbell Preston
I also found several fiction books involving lace making.
The Ruins of Lace by Iris Anthony
Colorado Lace by Rachel Druten
The Lace Makers of Glenmara by Heather Doran Barieri
And with all of the hobbies that I like to do, the resources available through MCPL makes it easy to learn a new craft. In the DIY section of our Online Resources, you can find a wide selection of craft ideas.
