Need A Laugh?

Family Vacations & Other Hazards of Growing Up by Steve White is a humorous and nostalgic look at growing up. Steve is from the Kansas City area, and his light-hearted adventures had me laughing out loud.
From tales of vacations in the family station wagon to surviving neighborhood bullies, first dates, siblings and their quirks, and riding bikes to nowhere, this book is a celebration about growing up in a simpler time.
The great thing about this book is that you do not have to read it in order, the chapters can stand alone. I enjoyed being able to flip through the book and read a quick chapter, here and there, whenever my schedule permitted.
On an added note, Steve’s parents are customers at Blue Springs South Branch. His dad is called Old Yeller in the book--read chapter 1 to find out why. We learn about his mom in the chapter called Family Treasures. I loved the essay Steve wrote about his mom on page 75 and especially funny, in chapter 4, is Topless in Missouri. (Don’t worry, I have never heard his dad yell and his mom is always fully clothed at the library!)
Enjoy reading this book and remembering your own experiences growing up.
