National Library Week
April 13, 2011
Did you know that there is a week dedicated to your local library? Yes, there is! In fact, it is this week, April 10-16. The theme for this year is "Create Your Own Story". The first National Library Week was observed May 1958 with the theme "Wake Up and Read". The idea of a National Library Week is older than one would think. The American Library Association (ALA) recommended such a week in 1922. Missouri had actually implemented a Book Week in February of the year 1922, and Children Book Week had been implemented as early as 1919. Check out ALA's website about National Library Week, or stop by and share your story with us about how the library is important to you.
