NaNoWriMo for Young Writers
October 29, 2012
Did you know that the Buckner Branch has a Young Writers' Club? We meet once a month on the 3rd Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Our kids have all sorts of fun writing adventures here at the Library. This coming November we will embark on the most awesome writing adventure ever! We will attempt to write a novel in one month. Okay, maybe not a very large novel; we are young writers after all. To accomplish this feat, there will be 3 write-ins at the Buckner Branch on the following dates:
- Saturday, November 3rd at 10:00 a.m.
- Thursday, November 15th at 6:30 p.m.
- Thursday, November 29th at 6:30 p.m.
Go to NaNoWriMo.com and sign up to write your novel. This program is run by The Office of Letters and Light and sponsored by donations. We take part in the Young Writers Program portion of this event, which is designed for young writers and educators, and lets you choose your own word count goal. If you take part in the full version for adult writers, you strive to write a 50,000 word novel. There are lots of pep talks and resources to help you on your journey. The best part is that you don’t have to worry about all those pesky spelling errors or grammatical mistakes. You just write like crazy. After the month of November is over and you have your fine novel in hand, you can polish up your piece and even publish it if you like.
So, wish us well on our literary journey, and we wish you well on yours!
