Mysterious Thoughts on a Thursday
February 24, 2012
For February, Thursday’s Mystery Book Club discussed Memory in Death by J. D. Robb. This is the 22th book in the Eve Dallas In Death series.
Coincidentally, this book is set in New York City just like our last read, Gone Tomorrow--but the key difference is that this book takes place in the year 2053. The futuristic setting wasn’t too distracting, and some of the details were memorable, like the tube of Pepsi. Readers agreed that, overall, this isn’t a bad mystery. Even though the murderer is easy to spot, the motive and explanation takes longer to come about.
At the beginning of the series, Eve is 8 years old and has no memory of her past. Now an adult, her evil foster mother, Trudy, comes calling with hopes to squeeze money out of Eve and her very rich husband. Trudy’s appearance brings back all kinds of horrible memories for Eve. However, before Eve can personally tell Trudy how she feels, Trudy is murdered. Eve decides that solving her murder will help her gain closure on her scarred past as Trudy’s foster child.
On March 8th, we will discuss The Drowning Tree by Carol Goodman. Books for the current month’s selection can be picked up at the Blue Ridge Branch.
