Mysterious Thoughts On a Thursday
September 26, 2012
In September, Thursday’s Mystery Book Club discussed Heart of the World by Linda Barnes. This title doesn’t find Carlotta operating in her home turf of Boston. Quite a bit of the book is in Colombia. The group felt sort of detached from the characters.
As a reader, you can tell this book is part of a series, but Boston and all the regular characters are missing. That’s the missing element to this one. Several members are going to give this series and try starting back with A Trouble of Fools (the beginning of the series). As a reader, one has to suspend too much disbelief to think Carlotta could rescue Paolina as she does in this one. This is just a so-so read without the support of the regular gang of characters. Heart of the World is book #11 in the Carlotta Carlyle series. The group gives this one 3 magnifying glasses out of 5.
On October 11th, we will be discussing Speak of the Devil by Richard Hawke. Books for the current month’s selection can be picked up at the Blue Ridge Branch.
