My Husband Shoots Things for Fun
August 29, 2012
With his camera, of course. He is getting to be quite an amateur photographer. His favorite subjects are nature and architecture. When he has a Saturday or an evening that he doesn’t have to work, we will head out somewhere with our dog, and he’ll shoot pictures while the dog and I walk around and enjoy the scenery. Then, we’ll head home where he works on his photos with Photoshop and other photography aid programs.
He’ll upload his favorites to his Flickr page. He also likes to check out other people’s photography via forums. He’ll get ideas about lenses that he might like to purchase by viewing photographs that were taken with them. He also likes watching instructional and rating videos on YouTube that discuss cameras, lenses, and the computer programs that he uses.
My interest in photography ends with the camera that is attached to my phone. F-stops mean absolutely nothing to me. However, I have become somewhat conversant with lenses and their strengths and weaknesses, so I can help him make decisions as to which lenses to purchase. I also know what bokeh is and how it can be very important in photography. I also enjoy the end results of his hobby as much as the time we spend together while he is shooting and editing.
If you have an interest in photography, the Library has many books on digital photography as well as Photoshop. You might also want to try out the various camera forums and YouTube videos to get advice and instructions. There are also camera clubs that you can join and meet with the members to go shoot together and get helpful information. One camera club meets at our Lee’s Summit Branch on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m.
