My Favorite Holiday
November 17, 2011
I am looking forward to my favorite holiday, Thanksgiving. I love this holiday because it is one of the few times of the year when the whole family can get together and just relax and enjoy family time. My mother cooked Thanksgiving dinner for many years, but when 3 of her great grandchildren were age 2, she passed the Thanksgiving responsibility to me. I hosted the dinner for several years, which at times included just our family and other years included our family and a family of close friends.
As our family continues to grow in number and age, we are again changing tradition. This year Thanksgiving will be hosted by my daughter in her new house. She is excited to have the family, and we are thrilled that she has space for our larger numbers. Some traditions will stay the same. My mom will still be making her awesome mashed potatoes. I will make the cabbage casserole that we eat only at Thanksgiving. My youngest son and his wife have assumed the responsibility of cooking the turkey, and we eagerly look forward to its goodness. My oldest son’s wife will bring her grandmother’s stuffing.
Since I am not the host this year, I’m pleased to be able to concentrate on my grandkids. One of my granddaughters has already requested that I bring Fancy Nancy books from the library. The youngest granddaughter will want Dora books and movies, and the boys will want Star Wars. My oldest granddaughter and I will be traveling to Washington DC in the spring, so I will grab travel books so we can get a preview of what we will be seeing.
I hope this season finds you as excited and thankful for many things as am I. May it be an enjoyable and happy Thanksgiving.
