Mushrooms, Mushrooms, Where Art Thou Mushrooms?
March 14, 2011
Spring is almost here, and with it comes one of my favorite things to do: mushroom hunting. I have mushroom hunted as far back as I can remember. I couldn’t tell you if it was something I started out enjoying because I wasn’t given an option; my mom went so the kids went.
I sure remember the thrill of being the first one to spot one--maybe up ahead of you or maybe right at your feet or just when you think you had found them all, turn a little bit and lo and behold, there will be another. It started to become a challenge among siblings to see who could find the most and always who could find the biggest. I have always loved the morels, but last year the Missouri Department of Conservation Magazine had an article on all the different edible mushrooms out there.
So, since I work where there is always a place to find answers, I checked out Mushrooms and other fungi of North America along with the Know Your Mushrooms video. These are just a couple of the many books and videos that can be found in the library on mushrooms. So, if you are an avid mushroom hunter or just a beginner, look at what the library has to offer. Let the challenge begin on how many and how big you find this years are. We will want to see pictures, just to keep those tall tales in check.
