Multilingual Language @ Your Library

December 08, 2010

Quiero estudiar espanol para apprender lo hablar. I want to study Spanish so that I can learn to speak it. Luckily for me, MCPL has many resources that help me do just that. During my daily commute to work, I've been listening to Pimsleur audio CD’s. I also have checked out the book Spanish Now, Level 1 by Ruth J. Silverstein to use at home. I recently introduced my young daughter to learning the Spanish language, as well. In addition to watching the Hola Amigos video, we’ve started enjoying Muzzy, a multi-media kit created to help children learn a foreign language.

There are also many resources on the MCPL website that aid my foreign language learning. My favorite is probably Mango Languages. I have just dabbled in the lessons it offers, but I am excited to plug in my headphones for further exploration. Aspects I like include the way it syncs native Spanish speakers with simple visual text, and how it allows one to select basic courses for travelers as opposed to more in-depth study. Plus, if I ever want to try my hand at another language, this database offers numerous selections!

I hope this inspires you to try a new language and enjoy learning it as much as I am. Hasta luego, amigos!
