Mr. Tucket a Great Read Aloud Choice for Boys
February 15, 2011
Mr. Tucket by Gary Paulsen was a great book to read aloud to my two elementary-aged boys. Even though the book chronicles the adventures of a 14-year-old boy, they enjoyed it.
Mr. Tucket is the tale of Francis Tucket, a pioneer boy traveling with his family to settle in Oregon. Francis is abducted by a band of Pawnee Indians and held captive. Thankfully, he is rescued by Mr. Grimes, a true mountain man. Over the next year, with the help of Mr. Grimes, Francis is reunited with his family.
This is a well-told story, full of excitement and plenty of cliffhangers. We enjoyed it so much, we're reading the sequel, Call Me Francis Tucket.
Note: While my boys loved this book, my teen girls were not interested.
