The Midwife’s Apprentice by Karen Cushman
Did you miss the Renaissance Festival or would you like to live in the Medieval Times? Well you might enjoy The Midwife’s Apprentice. This book is a Newbery award winner, and it’s historical fiction brought to life in a book. There are some harsh words in this book, but it still makes for an interesting read. The main character Alyce (Beetle), whom most of the harshness was directed at, learns and develops a stoic attitude toward her midwife master. I enjoyed peeking in on Alyce’s life.
You might also enjoy The Minstrel's Tale by Anna Questerly and Don Gerron.
The Lit Report by Sarah Harvey
I picked this book by accident and thought I would give it a go. I know you’re not supposed to judge a book by its cover, but this cover had books and a baby hat on it. I was reeled in by this author’s writing and later by the plot. I would not recommend this book to young readers and not even to a teenager because of the content. However, if I was a teen I would want to read this book. It is a short book, but you feel like it’s been a year. In addition, the author is a genius in incorporating the classics into this book and making it relevant to the main characters. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and had to finish it!
Other reads you might enjoy by this author are Death Benefits and Plastic [this has a cool cover too].
