More Library Than You Ever Imagined
August 14, 2012
Every community needs a library, right? Right? But what if there's no library nearby? There’s an app…er answer for that! Library-To-Go! What’s that? Until a couple of weeks ago, I was in the same boat as you. I didn’t really know much about these fancy library places, but I had the opportunity to pay a visit to one not too long ago—the Platte County Resource Center. It’s not staffed by librarians, but you can check out music and movies—and also pick up holds! No books are in stock for browsing, but you can pick up a book that you put on hold or any other item you place on hold at any of the Library-To-Go locations.
Now, what do I mean you can check out movies and music (and even place holds on books to checkout and pick up!) at these community resource locations? I mean just that exactly! Library-To-Go locations have DVDs and music CDs to browse and checkout, and there’s even a place for your holds. So, you can place a hold on a book and pick it up as you checkout your movies and music. You know what’s really neat? New movies that are in stock in Library-To-Go locations have checkout periods of (drum roll please) 28 days instead of the normal 7 dayers at a normal branch!
That means the movie that you want to check out, but may not have enough time in one week to fully enjoy, can be kept as long as you would a non-feature movie. If you’re like me, you’re a student, a million other things to other people (hopefully all good), and you don’t have the time to watch a move within the first seven days of checkout. Or, you’re even more like me and you leave it on top of your TV for a week and a half thinking each time. "I really should watch that and return it."
There are even computers for you to use, too!
The location of the Platte County Resource Center makes it easy for anyone with a Library card who is headed to the airport for a trip (business or fun) to pick up a movie or some good tunes before the flight, or even as they come home. The Platte County Resource Center is open Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. If you don’t live in the Tiffany Springs area but want to know if one of these cool places is near you, check out our Library-To-Go locations.
I’m heading up to the Platte County Resource Center tonight to pick up a copy of Percy Jackson & the Olympians: Lightning Thief. Why? Because I can, and so can you!
