Monday's Musings On a Mystery
September 19, 2012
For the September meeting, the Monday Mystery Book Club read Back of Beyond by C. J. Box. This is not part of Box’s Joe Pickett series. It is a stand-alone title, and a few members liked it better than those in the Pickett series. In all fairness, a couple members liked the Pickett series better.
Overall, the group didn’t care for Cody, the main character. He’s an alcoholic who doesn’t back down from a fight. In general, with all the violence, it was felt this book would appeal to more men than women. What did appeal to the group was the premise behind the mystery; that part was interesting. Some of the actual action requires the reader to suspend their disbelief.
On Oct. 8th, we will be discussing Murder on Bank Street by Victoria Thompson. Books for the current month’s selection can be picked up at the Blue Ridge Branch.
