I love summer: playing outside, barbecuing, and hanging out with friends. The best part of summer for me is playing in the water. Whether it is at a water park, lake, or pool, I spend a lot of time in the water.
When I was younger, my favorite part of playing in water was pretending I was a mermaid. It was a game many of my friends and I enjoyed. We would set up hoops in our pools, place buried treasure at the bottom, and see who could swim under like a mermaid the longest. It didn’t help that Disney’s movie, The Little Mermaid, came out when I was 3.
As a child and well into my adulthood, I would read as many different mermaid stories as I could find. From Hans Christian Andersen’s Little Mermaid to the sirens in Homer’s Odyssey, I couldn’t wait to find a new story to read. MCPL continues to grow their collection by collecting great books. Here are a few newer series about mermaids in our catalog:
Mermaid Tales by Debbie Dadey is a Juvenile Easy Series.
Emily Windsnap by Liz Kessler is a Juvenile Fiction Series.
Daughters of the Sea by Kathryn Lasky is a Young Adult Series.
Hope you enjoy!
