Memorial Day is Here Already

May 24, 2012

That's right; the last Monday in May is already upon us. Memorial Day marks the unofficial start to summer. All the kids should be out of school (or just about there), swimming pools are set to open, and your friendly MCPL branches will be closed all day on Monday, May 28th.

Memorial Day began as Decoration Day after the Civil War, meant to honor those soldiers who had died fighting, though there is evidence that there were already picnic-type festivals already celebrated around this same time of year. Nowadays, it seems that the picnicking and barbecuing has more or less won out. However you celebrate the weekend, you're likely to fire up the grill at some point. So, why not check out some of these book titles available from MCPL:

  • The Asian Grill: Great Recipes, Bold Flavors by Corinne Trang
  • Country Living: Eating Outdoors from Hearst Books
  • The Cook's Illustrated Guide to Grilling and Barbecue from America's Test Kitchen

Or, check out what else we have available in our collection. Have a great weekend, an awesome summer, and happy reading!
