MCPL Liberty Branch Wins Award!
December 05, 2013
The Liberty Branch participated in the Historic Downtown Liberty Giving Tree annual contest and won one of three awards given! The project featured 16 individually adorned miniature, holiday trees from Liberty-area nonprofit organizations. The Judge’s Choice award was presented to Liberty staff on December 3 in an award ceremony at a local business on the Liberty Square. The other two awards given were People’s Choice and Best Use of Color.
The theme for the decorations this year was "The Spirit of Liberty." Liberty staff members, Barbara Brown and Trini Ozborn, decorated the tree with tiny books made of wood. Patriotic and local interest book covers (i.e. Kansas City Chiefs and Royals) were selected. The edges were painted to look like pages, then varnished to protect them from the weather. The miniature books were adorned with jingle bells and star beads. In addition, nutcracker ornaments were hung, which were painted and decorated with KC Chiefs’ and KC Royals’ logos and colors. Red and blue garland was wrapped around the tree, and the tree topper was repurposed and blinged out with star beads. Trees will be on display through the first week of January.
The Liberty Branch has participated in the contest for several years, but won for the first time this year. The new Woodneath Library Center also participated in the contest for the first time.
