May the Force Be with Them...

November 12, 2012

Disney has learned the Jedi ways and taken on Lucasfilms. George Lucas, writer and director of the Star Wars Saga, has decided to retire and sold his legacy for a whopping 4 billion to Disney Studios, who immediately announced their intentions of releasing Star Wars Episode 7 in the year 2015. This will be the beginning of a new trilogy we are told. The question is how will Star Wars long-time, loyal fans handle the change? Will Disney make it epic, or disappoint us? Those who remember the Jar Jar Binks fiasco of 1999 with The Phantom Menace may be squirming in their chairs. If Mickey makes an appearance, I will personally leave the theatre. After a long claim of "not making any more Star Wars movies" and dealing with the "Han shot first!" fandom, Lucas has made it clear that he always knew Star Wars would live beyond him and wants to make the transition in his lifetime. These movies are a well-loved, and Lucas fans are out of this world. No other movie series has established such a huge following, and I doubt we will ever see the likes of it again ... unless teenagers somehow overthrow the world and we are forced to suffer through multiple screenings, versions, and re-telling’s of Twilight.

And just so you know...

A New Hope (1977) grossed $461 million in the U.S alone
The Empire Strikes Back grossed $290 million
Return of the Jedi grossed $310 million

The Phantom Menace grossed $431 million
Attack of the Clones grossed $310 million
Revenge of the Sith grossed $380 million
