March Madness is Over! How About April Gladness?

April 17, 2012

I am a HUGE college basketball fan! Coming from the Midwest, so close to where the game was invented, and being a girl who is over 6' tall, most people would say no wonder! I look forward to the month of March every year and have my favorite teams I love to cheer on to victory. My three favorites, in order, are Duke, KU, and MU. Some of you may be taking a double-take at this moment, wondering how in the world anyone could root for MU and KU at the same time.  It's simple, really. That's what I like about living near the border of states. I root for MU because, duh, I live in Missouri. I root for KU for several reasons. My husband loves KU, we live closer to KU than MU, and my youngest son was born in Kansas. Oh yes, and then there is that inescapable fact that Bill Self is an amazing college basketball coach! Now, onto Duke! I have loved Duke since 1989 when they beat UNLV, and I have closely followed their team ever since. Duke puts forth a great team year after year, and Coach K is a legend. Both of these coaches will certainly be Hall-of-Famers one day.

I know that there are many other great teams out there, so I hope you all will get behind one or two of your personal favorites and cheer them on! For those reading this blog that don't care one way or another about basketball, I invite you to read about the history of another sport at your local branch. Baseball season is upon us, and of course, the Summer Olympics are just around the corner. Some of you may be experiencing April Gladness!

Note: this was written a couple hours before the tip-off of the KU vs. UK championship game. Yes, being the dedicated Library employee I am, I was here at Red Bridge that night.
