Make Up Your Own Holiday Day
March 22, 2012
Have you ever wanted to create your own holiday—a day special to you even if to no one else? If so, then March 26 (Make Up Your Own Holiday Day) is YOUR day!
This holiday is one of about 80 created by Thomas and Ruth Roy who operate www.wellcat/holiday.com. Their mission? As they put it, "To create zany holidays that inspire folks to celebrate life and its many quirky moments."
After careful consideration of the practically endless possibilities, I have settled upon "There’s No Such Thing As Laundry Day" as my holiday.
I hate to do laundry. Anyone who knows me will attest to this. In fact, I suffer from an affliction I call LOADS--Laundry Oversight and Disregard Syndrome. With LOADS, I have the ability to look at huge, mountainous piles of laundry (clean or dirty) and step right around them with little to no remorse. On "There’s No Such Thing As Laundry Day," I will have absolutely NO remorse when I avoid the piles. In fact, on this glorious day, no one will even be able to give me any sort of laundry tasks at all. I will be living in a laundry-free zone!
There will be no balled-up, inside-out, crunchy socks for me to deal with. I will wear white pants and a light colored shirt, and not a single drop of ketchup, salsa or any other brightly colored food will spill on them. No one will be allowed to leave dirty underwear on the bathroom floor. Everyone will be able to remember the location of and use the dirty laundry basket, so there will be no piles of dirty laundry on my children’s bedroom floors. Not only will they be able to find this basket, they won’t be able to play laundry Jenga. (This is when no one wants to be the one to carry the full basket downstairs to the laundry room, so they attempt to see just how many items they can precariously perch atop it before it all topples over.)
You know what? Not only am I not going to set foot in the laundry room that day… I won’t even go downstairs! Aha! No stairs for me! Bonus! Perhaps, I’ll rename my special day: "There Are No Such Things As Laundry Or Stairs Day." (My aching feet will thank me.)
Ah, yes, (satisfied grin) I’m going to enjoy my holiday so very much! What will you do with yours?
