Make Family Memories With the Summer Reading Program!
May 13, 2013
I am helping with the Summer Reading Program this year. As I was unpacking all of the wonderful book titles we give away as prizes, it brought back memories of the Summer Reading Program with my own children.
When I was a young mother (maybe I wasn’t that young), one of our family’s routines was to go to the Library at least one day of the week. My children and I loved the day when we went to the Library. We usually went in the morning. First, we would go and spend lots of time choosing books that were just right, and then we would go home, sprawl out, and read. It was a big production. All of us got blankets and pillows, and we all stayed in one room together. The rest of the afternoon was spent reading and sharing the books. We did nothing else for the remainder of the day. We talked, read, and laughed our way through many books. It was a great time! My children usually earned many new books every summer. Before writing this blog, I asked each of my children about their Summer Reading Program experiences (they are all adults now), and each one of them smiled and related that those summer days were some of their best times. It made an impact on them.
So, if you want to make memories like these with your own family, or if you just need something to do this summer, then run, don’t walk, to your nearest library and join the Summer Reading Program. Start making memories as early as May 20th. See you there and let the memories begin!
