Love...Whatever

February 08, 2012

Next up: Valentine's Day.

Chances are, you are either sighing or groaning at the thought of Valentine's Day. What to do or not to do. What to get or not get. Where to go or how to avoid going out.

Whatever your feelings about Valentine's Day, chances are that at one point in your life, you were smitten. If not in a relationship, you probably at least had a special movie or song that spoke to you.

Pondering the eternal question of love or...whatever...led me to do a very quick and informal survey of the employees of the North Independence Branch. When I asked them to name their all-time fave love stories, movies, or music, I got some interesting answers and comments.

For your enjoyment, here are a few suggestions from the North Independence staff. Some of these items are even available...at the library that is!

Pride and Prejudice: It should be noted, however, that the employee who recommended this classic also ventured that When Harry Met Sally actually reflected her own love story.

Love Story: This is a simple, classic tale of love offered up by a gal who loves Elvis.

Armageddon: Really? Well, it makes a lot of sense when you think about it. Quite an epic love story, that Armageddon! The employee who suggested Armageddon also enjoyed The Notebook. Favorite romantic music choices include: It's Your Love by Faith Hill and Tim McGraw and Then by Brad Paisley.

A real romantic opted for An Affair to Remember, Leap Year, and Fools Rush in. The theme music from Titanic and Chariots of Fire was also a Valentine's must-have.

Film unites image and sound and sets our hearts soaring. Movie-watching is timeless. Whether you're watching with a romantic partner or a group of friends, don't miss out on these staff picks. Some are shamelessly romantic. Some pass it up in favor of comedy or the ever-popular explosion (from which the hero emerges unscathed of course).
