The Lost Art of Christmas Cards

November 30, 2012

Do you still send Christmas cards? I do, but I have noticed the last few years that the number of cards I send and receive has gone down. People tell me they just can’t afford to send them or it takes too much time to get the cards together.

I have sent the same type of card for the past 12 years. I take a recent picture of my boys and have photo cards made. This way family and friends can see how much they have grown. Plus, once my boys go off to college, I plan to have all the cards framed in one picture to use as a Christmas decoration.

I receive a few cards every year that are handmade…and I am amazed that anyone has time to make Christmas cards, or greeting cards in general. If this sounds interesting to you, MCPL has many books to show you how. Check out the selections below or browse our catalog for many others.

  • 100 Fresh and Fun Handmade Cards: step-by-step instructions for 50 new designs and 50 amazing alternatives by Kimber McGray
  • A Year of Flowers: creatively stamped cards for every occasion by Melanie Muenchinger
  • The Best of Stamp It! Cards by Jennifer Schaerer
  • The Big Book of Holiday Paper Crafts by Leisure Arts, Inc.

So, if you are the creative type, you might want to give card making a try.
