The Little Card That Could

May 01, 2012

What can your Library card do for you? Our MCPL branches are more than just buildings with books. Take a look at 10 fantastic ways to use your Library card. Your Library card can help you "check out" what you may be missing!

  1. Summer Reading Program
The theme for our summer reading program for 2012 is Dream Big, Read! Our program is a fun and easy way for kids from babies to teens to earn free books and prizes. It starts on May 21st!
  2. Internet Access
Every branch has computers for public use. We also offer free Wi-Fi.
  3. Genealogy
Genealogy is the fastest growing hobby in North America. Our genealogy branch is the largest free-standing public genealogy library in the United States. Last year, over 118,000 patrons visited this library. Take advantage of the microfilm sources, microfiche records, a 102,000 title reference book collection, and the Midwest Genealogy Center’s circulating collection.
  4. Downloadable eBooks and audiobooks.
    Our collection is growing!
  5. Online Book Clubs
This is a great assist for busy people! BookTalk.org is a free online book discussion forum and reading group.
  6. Research Databases
If you have a Library card, you have access to more than 200 online resources. Get help with a business proposal, a school project, or a hobby.
  7. Tutoring and Homework Help
    Connect with live tutors.
  8. Library-To-Go and Library-By-Mail
We offer convenience and service for patrons that are not close to a MCPL branch or who are home-bound and not able to visit the library. If you cannot come to us, we will come to you.
  9. Interlibrary Loan
If you want to read a book, view a movie, or listen to music that is not available through MCPL, we offer to find the item for you from other library systems around the world.
  10. Teacher Assistance
This service allows teachers and daycare providers to submit requests to Library staff for collections of items for use in the classroom or in the library.
