Little Blue Blog
June 27, 2012
You have probably heard that Little Blue Parkway is now open all the way to Bundschu Road. This gives you four easy access points to the Little Blue Trace Trail. This Trail has one end beginning on Blue Mills Road in northeast Independence. From there it goes south, clear to...I don't know where it goes to, but let's just say the wide blue yonder. I have walked under I-70 and have made it as far as 40 Hwy, but the trail continues on. I have heard that it will eventually connect with the Katy Trail (I did not confirm this, so at this point it's only a happy rumor).
In my opinion, this is a gem of Independence (along with Mid-Continent Public Library of course). I have been using this trail for twenty years. My family has grown up on this trail. My husband and I enjoyed biking and strolling together after a long day at work or early in the mornings. Then, along came babies snuggled against our chests. Then, it was a ride on Daddy's shoulders or holding hands and swinging in between us. Next came the wagon. We would pull them and then they would pull each other. Graduate to bicycles. First with training wheels, then without. Now we are all biking or walking together. We all agree that this is great family time. This trail has grown up with us in those twenty years.
I have also enjoyed the trail at all times of the year and in all types of weather. I have walked when it was raining and while it was snowing. Walking in the fog is interesting. I love the fall when the leaves are turning and the spring when the flowers are all in bloom. I have seen all kinds of wildlife. Turkey, deer, snakes, turtles, rabbits, geese flying at eye level (that is awesome), and oodles of birds and insects.
A word of advice: take lots of water and pack a lunch. Don't forget the sunscreen on sunny summer days. A hat and sunglasses are a must. Oh yeah, canine members of the family will love it and you, so don't forget them!

Great Blog, Amy!
Memories are for sharing, thanks for sharing. I do love this trail, too.
I also love this trail. I am
I also love this trail. I am not sure where it ends either but I know that my son has ridden it 11 miles from Blue Mills Road. He is now grown and I can't keep up with him any longer. However, we also have used this trail since he was small and enjoy it very much.
I know what you mean
I have always said that my son always walked twice as far as the rest of us. He would walk (I mean run) ahead of us and then come back to us and would do this for our whole walk. As he has gotten older he has chosen to stick close to us and we have enjoyed some great conversations together. Thanks for sharing. Amy H.
