The Library Popping Up Near You!
March 11, 2013
You may be scratching your head like I did when I first heard the term pop-up library. It's one more way we're bringing the library to you. It's your local MCPL branch popping up in your community! And, we're popping up in all sorts of nifty places.
Renner Elementary school's "Celebration of Learning" night has been the first of many places, I'm sure, where we'll be popping up. Last Thursday evening, we had the fantastic opportunity to sign up kids and parents alike for library cards right there at the school! This fashionable event included, as part of the night's festivities, March Madness, book style! Grades K-1, 2-3, and 4-5 each had a special bracket with four books per bracket, but something truly unique was that the parents had a bracket, too! Since the kids were reading their own books from their school's library, we brought books for the adults. After a good time celebrating learning, they probably wouldn't have time to head to their public library to checkout books. So, we thought it might be a good idea to get the books where they were at. All I can say is that we were hopping higher than a Dance Marathon, and it was awesome! It's safe to say that we all had a great time getting library cards, fun reads, and even talking about how to checkout our eBooks!
We love checking out books and giving new library cards with that "New Library Card" smell, but we also love opportunities like this that give us the chance to get to know our friends, neighbors, and community members even better. We get to see what everyone is interested in and what they're passionate about.
"Take your pleasures seriously," Charles Eames once said. We're popping up to help you do just that!
