The Librarian Stereotype
December 27, 2012
When you think about a librarian, what do you see? Are you seeing her now? Does she have a stylish bun, a frumpy cardigan, and thick glasses? Is she shushing you? Ok, ok, I get it, but what is her stereotypical personality? I’m hoping that it’s better than her wardrobe…
Recently, I read a blog by the Lipstick Librarian that explained why we librarians should strive to fulfill the librarian stereotype. Cardigans and buns aside, the most important aspect of a librarian is what she does for her customers. The Lipstick Librarian suggests that we should continue to empathize with our customers, worship continuity, share our knowledge, and think about the long term.
I think that’s a pretty awesome librarian stereotype, and I hope I can keep it up. I wear the cardigans, so I might as well aspire to that, too.
