Letting the Cat Out of the Bag

October 10, 2012

As a rule, I don’t care for cats. I’m allergic to them. They make me itch, sneeze, and wheeze. I have recently discovered a cat that I absolutely love though. His name is Pete, and he is a focal character of three amazingly fun read aloud picture books written by Eric Litwin and illustrated by James Dean.

I was first introduced to Pete the Cat in the first book titled Pete the Cat I Love My White Shoes. What makes this book fun is that there are many opportunities for audience participation, a very catchy tune, and the text is repeated so the children can quickly figure out what’s about to happen. It was not surprising to me that this book won the Missouri Building Block Picture Book award in 2011.

Pete the Cat Rocking in My School Shoes came next, followed by Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons. I was beyond excited to see that Pete the Cat has a new adventure coming out called Pete the Cat Saves Christmas! For a sneak preview, you can visit the publisher of these great books and also listen to the catchy songs that go with each one.

If you love Pete as much as I do, your kids have an opportunity to win one of two copies of Pete the Cat I Love My White Shoes. To qualify, they just need to come in and fill out a Vote for Books ballot, and they will be entered into a drawing that will be held on November 9th!
