Let's Go Fly A Kite!
April 12, 2011
Do those words make you want to sing along with the old Mary Poppins song? Or, maybe make you feel like flying a kite again? April is National Kite Month, and one of the largest kite-flying festivals in the Midwest will be right here in our own backyard in Lee’s Summit on Saturday, April 16, from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
The "Flights of Fancy" kite festival will be held on the MCC-Longview campus, and people are encouraged to bring their own kite, or simply chairs and a blanket to enjoy all the other kites. It’s a free event, but you can buy a kite there, or even make one. The festival will feature power kites, stunt kites, mega kites, and the world’s largest windsock at three stories high and 200 feet long. There will also be lots of activities for kids, including an inflatable maze, face painting, a balloon artist, and a candy drop. Click on the "Flights of Fancy" link for more info on where to park, what to bring or not to bring, and all the activities for the day.
I plan to head out to this festival, hopefully dust off my kite, and get it back in the air again for the first time in years. Maybe, I’ll see you there!
