Let the Writing Begin!

November 03, 2011

It is that time of year again: time to sharpen your pencils, pull out your laptop or typewriter, and begin the adventure! That’s right, it’s National Novel Writing Month, or NaNo for short. NaNo happens every November. It is when you challenge yourself to write a 50,000 word novel in 30 days. It is intense, it is caffeine and sugar driven, it is insanity, and it is the most fun you can legally have in 30 days.

The first week has begun, and once again, I have found myself unprepared. When October started, I knew I needed to work on my outline, figure out my characters, and create the world they would interact in. However, I find that on the day before NaNo officially begins, I am scrambling for an outline; I have created a few characters, at least, but the plot? Not a clue. Apparently I work better under pressure, as I have created half an outline today during my break.  Ah, you have to love the pressure.

If you can’t find a quiet spot to write or want to join others in a write-in, join us at North Oak every Thursday in November at 6 pm. We will have treats, a chart to share your progress, and people to procrastinate with, if that is what you need.

So, whether you are prepped and ready to go or flying by the seat of your pants, get in there and write away. And remember, quantity over quality!

Good Luck!

The story so far . . ..

Submitted by Anonymous on November 3, 2011 - 12:41pm.

So far it's going pretty well. There's been a murder, a nasty ghost-eating monster, and something awful is about to happen in the morgue. Oh, and there's a frog with three eyes. But it's dead, so it might not count.

I hope the story has continued with such interesting creations. May you make it to 50,000 words and beyond!
