LEGOpalooza 2012: "Building" Excitement

May 01, 2012

Who doesn't like LEGOs?

Okay, maybe not in the middle of the night when your bare foot comes down on the one rogue LEGO that refuses to stay in the container, but most generally, it's hard to find someone who doesn't like those little plastic bricks.

For the past three years, the Kearney Branch has celebrated all things LEGO with our annual LEGO Show. LEGO enthusiasts, typically between 8 and 12 years old and their parents, have gathered to share their creations and talk about, what else, LEGOs.

This year, we're turning up the volume a bit with LEGOpalooza 2012 on Saturday, June 2 at 10:00 a.m. Riding the wave created by the recent opening of the LEGOland Discovery Center at Kansas City's Crown Center, we hope to attract not only our core crowd, but also those adult enthusiasts who have dusted off their LEGO-building skills or never completely put them away.

We'll start at 10:00 a.m. with our traditional show and tell, and then at 11:00 a.m., we'll turn the event over to Jonathan Bender, author of LEGO: A Love Story. Bender will share the history of the LEGO, describe what it's like to work at LEGO, what it takes be a top LEGO designer, and what led him to rediscover a toy from his childhood. Bender will then share his gallery of fantastic LEGO creations from around the world.

Come share your LEGO creativity or rediscover it all over again at LEGOpalooza 2012.
