Lee's Summit Middle Schoolers Help John Knox Village Residents with Technology
March 12, 2013
On March 2nd, students from Pleasant Lea Middle School's Library Club came together to promote Teen Tech Week by holding an informational seminar at John Knox Village. Twice a month, I have the pleasure of meeting with a fun, amazing group of 7th and 8th graders at PLMS to discuss the library happenings and plan teen programs.
When the school year started, they were given the option to plan a program for Teen Tech Week (March 10-16). After some lengthy brainstorming, we decided that based on our close proximity to John Knox Village, a technology workshop would be a fun way to celebrate this annual event. Not only did students arrive at John Knox Village ready to teach its residents about everything from social media to eBooks, but they also prepared a flyer to distribute in the branch and at John Knox. It covers useful technological information about social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, and Goodreads, as well as texting 101 information.
At the end of the afternoon, John Knox Village residents left knowing more about OverDrive and tablet devices. Local teens had the opportunity to share their knowledge with seniors.
The Lee's Summit Branch is so thankful to have a group of teens that are enthusiastic about technology and willing to share it with our community!
