Learning Games Are Fun and Free!

July 18, 2011

If you don’t tell your kids they are learning something, they will just think they are having fun. MCPL has expanded their collection of online learning games for kids of all ages. We now have a large variety of websites that feature FREE GAMES! Tips and strategies for your favorite games have also been added.

Accessing these websites is quick and easy. Go to our Home Page and click Online Resources at the top. Next choose Web Resources. Under the Computer & Internet heading, click on Gaming. I found an engaging game that helps with vocabulary and spelling on the third page of games. Choose Sporcle, and then type "The 3rd Word" in the search bar of the Sporcle site. "The 3rd Word" would be a fun game to play with your child.

Be sure to check out games in the Kids section too. On the Home Page, choose Kids in the upper right corner. You will then be able to choose the appropriate age group in the left column. Websites for Kids will appear under that age group. Click Fun & Games, and then Online Games. On page four, I found the game Play I Spy. It was almost addictive. If your child loves the I Spy series of books, you will have a winner with this game.

Spend a little time with your child at the computer to find fun combined with learning. Just don’t tell them it’s educational. That will be our secret.
