Lazy Sunday
September 28, 2010
Autumn is here, and cooler weather is moving in. This is the time of year that I begin to think about changing leaves, cozy evenings at home, and the smell of delicious things baking in the oven. This Sunday afternoon, my husband decided to make some chili, and I found myself in the mood to bake something. But what to bake?
With football on the television in the background, I spent some time perusing my myriad of cookbooks, and checking my stash of baking goods to see what ingredients I had on hand. Unfortunately, my baking inventory was sparse, as it has been a long time since I’d had the urge to bake.
Still undecided on what I would make, I headed to the grocery store to stock up on baking supplies. This way, I reasoned with my husband, I should basically have anything I need accessible once I settled on a recipe.
Twenty minutes later, I returned home with an armload of ingredients and the inspiration to make some oatmeal raisin cookies. My husband was on board with the idea, and helpfully sampled the first batch that came out of the oven—just to make sure they tasted alright, of course!
Rallied by the success of my first foray into baking this fall season, I am looking forward to making another delicious baked treat this weekend…maybe something chocolate!
This time, I think I’ll look to Blue Springs South’s collection of baking cookbooks for a new recipe.
