Know Someone Homebound?

June 17, 2011

Did you know that library users who become physically unable to visit their local branch may still receive library services? Mail delivery of library materials and information is free-of-charge to MCPL residents.

I have often thought that this is one of the most critically important services that we provide. While many of our Library-By-Mail customers are seniors, there is a growing population that is younger. I realized this, myself, with the illness and hospitalization of my sister a couple of years ago. While she didn’t live in our service area, she was an avid reader, and it would have been wonderful if her library system had provided this service. Often, beyond the library materials, there is a side-benefit for those using Library-By-Mail. Many are able to regain a measure of independence.

If you know someone who is homebound, please let them know that we will mail library materials to them. We have applications online or you can call (816) 503-4175, and we’ll send you a packet to fill out (and will include a stamped envelope to return it, too!)
