Kids Vote @ the Library
September 28, 2011
The Missouri Building Block award is presented annually to the author and illustrator of the picture book voted most popular by children not yet in 1st grade. Each year, 10 books are nominated. In order to be eligible to vote, children must read or listen to at least five of the nominated books. Ballots are available at the circulation desk. Voting will continue through December 31st; however, we ask that children vote only once.
To make things convenient for you, we’ve set up a great display of the nominated titles. The books are popular and quickly disappear from our display. To make sure you get the books you want to read, we can put them on hold. Each branch in our system has multiple copies of these great books. It won’t take long for you to receive them.
The Children’s Round Table of the Missouri Library Association has compiled great activity sheets with additional recommended reading. You can find these activity sheets on their website. We’ve added some bundles of recommended books and activity sheets to our Missouri Building Block display.
Typically, a large majority of the Building Block votes come from the MCPL library system! We’re pleased to report that Truman, Santa Fe, Johnson, Blue Ridge Christian, and Belmont Montessori School will be participating in this process, along with several other day cares in our community.
