Kids and Nature
September 20, 2010
Getting outside and experiencing nature is a wonderful activity! Take this experience to another level by turning it into something fun and creative. In the book Camp Out!: The Ultimate Kid’s Guide from the Backyard to the Backwoods, the author writes, “Keeping a field journal is a fun way to record what you see or hear on the trail. In it you can make drawings, describe in detail the plants and animals you come across, collect leaves and flowers to press and tape right into your book.” Be sure to bring your camera, take pictures, and print the coolest shots when you get home. You can make your field journal look fantastic by gluing your pictures next to the things you have drawn and collected. The famous Naturalist, John Burroughs says, “If I were to name the three most precious resources of life, I should say books, friends and nature; and the greatest of these, at least the most constant and always at hand is nature.”
