KC Summer 2012
June 22, 2012
Summer is here and the living is easy, or so the old song goes. I do think summer is a special time of year no matter what your age. This summer in Kansas City is especially exciting if you are a baseball fan, like this writer, as our city is hosting a very exciting baseball event. All around town the week of July 8th, the city will be bustling with activities for all ages, as well as countless visitors to our city.
All summer long, in my opinion, there’s just a special feeling attending a Royals game at the beautiful Kauffman Stadium, whether it’s a special event or a regular season game. Also, regardless of what some may say, our Royals are playing pretty good baseball this season. They are not first place yet, but if you watch, we have some really good players.
Kansas City offers a lot of other summer time attraction for those who may not be big into baseball. Starlight Theater is also one of Kansas City’s crown jewels. Did you know that Starlight is one of the last outdoor theaters of its kind in the United States and has been a part of Kansas City summers since 1950? For a play or concert, in my opinion, it’s one of the best and most relaxing places to go on a nice summer evening.
There is another summer tradition which draws thousands of children and teens throughout Jackson, Clay, and Platte Counties that is completely FREE. Can’t guess? Well of course it’s Mid-Continent Public Library's Summer Reading Program. If you haven’t registered, you still have plenty of time. Go online or stop by any of our 30 convenient locations to register.
