July 24 is National Drive-Thru Day
July 22, 2013
National Drive-Thru Day is observed annually to celebrate America’s drive-thru service industry. Jack-in-the-Box is recognized as America’s first major hamburger chain to pave the way for this new type of dining experience, to recognize American's love affair with their car. But not all drive-thru windows offer food.
Did you know that Smithville Branch has a drive-thru? I am still amazed at how many people pull up to the window and say, "I had no idea that there was a drive-thru here!" I've even heard, "Can I have fries with that?"
What a great service this library offers! I have to admit that I was a bit reluctant to embrace the idea of a drive-thru window at the Library. Really, what's better than browsing through the stacks and picking out a book to read? I quickly learned, during the first winter that we were opened, how wonderful it is for a young mother with a sleeping baby to be able to pull up to the window and pick up her selection of books without having to drag the baby out of a car seat into the cold, or for an elderly customer that has difficulty walking to be able to order and pick up his books.
The Smithville Branch offers the drive-thru service during normal business hours. We are available to check out your holds and take your returned items for check-in. We'll always try to offer you a smile; just don't expect any fries with that!
