Join Us for the Colbern Road Evening Book Club
April 24, 2012
This month, the Colbern Road Evening Book Club is discussing The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie by C. Alan Bradley. Join us Wednesday, April 25th at 7:00 p.m. as we gather to talk about this enthralling Debut Dagger Award winner.
Bradley’s brilliant first novel introduces us to 11 year old Flavia de Luce, our engaging heroine. On an exceedingly boring summer day in which she would normally only be dreaming about experiments and chemical equations, Flavia unexpectedly finds a dead bird on the doorstep with a postage stamp pinned to its beak. A mystery! What would Marie-Anne Paulze Lavoisier, famous French chemist, do if she were there? Why, solve the puzzle, of course. So, with her passion for poison and aptitude for chemistry, Flavia sets out to do just that. The only problem is that she finds a dead body along the way.
Pick up this excellent, witty read to follow Flavia’s investigation and find out who died, who did it, and why.
