Join MCPL on Goodreads!
June 08, 2012
Do you often find yourself wishing there was more literature in your day-to-day social networking? Do you want to interact with other bibliophiles or participate in fun and interesting quizzes about your favorite themes and characters? Maybe, you just want to convert your mosaic of post-it notes of books-to-read into an attractive digital format? If any of these apply, then you definitely need Goodreads!
Goodreads is perfect for finding user-generated lists of recommendations and read alikes for your favorite titles and authors. Also, as you collect and maintain your virtual bookshelf with past, current, and future reads (making sure to rate as you go!), Goodreads will provide you with personalized recommendations. Many authors even maintain Goodreads pages with bios, blogs, release dates, videos, and sometimes sample passages and chapters from upcoming books.
So, maybe you've been on Goodreads for a while and none of this is news to you. Fair enough, my savvy friend! But did you know that MCPL has opened up a group to the public, and we're now inviting everyone to join in on some friendly conversation about books? So if you're a longtime Goodreads user or just signing up on the site today, make sure you stop by the Mid-Continent Public Library Group and talk with library staff and other library customers. We can't wait for you to join the conversation!

Book link to MCPL from Goodreads
Are there any plans to update the MCPL search so that it is capable of being linked directly from Goodreads? Several other libraries in the area have this feature and it is SO handy - would love it if you all could upgrade to enable this.

While we do not have the capability to do this from the current version of our catalog, it should be possible with the next version. No timeframe yet for an upgrade, but we are actively working towards it. Thanks for your comment!
