Join the Jamboree!!
January 26, 2011
What an adventure! This summer in Rinkaby Sweden, 40,000 Boy Scouts from six continents and more than 114 countries are expected to attend the 2011 World Scout Jamboree to celebrate 101 years of scouting. Here in the USA, the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) have been providing the youth of our country with fun, skills, exploration, and character-building while providing our cities and states with altruistic service. Since its founding, more than 110 million Americans have been members of the BSA, including baseball great Henry Aaron, first man to walk on the moon Neil Armstrong, Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer, and Microsoft founder Bill Gates.
As a scouting enthusiast, a mom of two Eagle Scouts, and a BSA volunteer of over twenty years, I am following the scout slogan to "Do a good turn daily", and inform those new to scouting that Mid-Continent Public Library has many resources available for scouts, leaders, and parents. We have merit badge booklets that cover everything from chemistry to wilderness survival, scout handbooks for leaders as well as scouts, and videos, all available for free checkout.
We have books that will add zest to your den and pack meetings too: joke books, magic books, books filled with skits, and stories to tell around the campfire.
Most BSA books can be found in the adult and juvenile nonfiction areas with the call number 369.43, or you can type in "Boy Scouts of America" in the keyword search. Like the scout motto says, it is always good to "Be Prepared".
