Join In the Fun Around Town
October 17, 2011
Autumn...that wonderful time of year when leaves turn brilliant colors, days are cooler, and little ghoulies come out for Halloween. If you’re looking for something special to do with your little goblins, several things are going on around town this month:
- October 18 at 7 p.m. The whole family can come have fun at the Blue Springs North Branch of MCPL for a Not-So-Scary-Halloween Show. Musician and entertainer Dino O’Dell will be here to share some wacky songs and tell a few not-so-spooky Halloween stories. Be sure to wear your costumes, and come prepared to have a great time! Sign-up is required.
- October 19 at 2 p.m. Kids ages 7 and up can join us at the Blue Springs North Branch of MCPL for Pumpkin Carving. Kids, bring your hollowed, pre-cleaned pumpkins, and get ready for some fun! Sign-up is required. Once you carve that perfect pumpkin, you’ll want to enjoy it for as long as possible. But how do you preserve a pumpkin? Bleach! Mix one teaspoon of bleach per gallon of water and let your jack-o-lantern soak for at least 8 hours. After that, spray it daily with a water/bleach solution. This will hydrate your pumpkin, and the bleach will act as an antimicrobial, which will help keep mold at bay.
- October 29 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Downtown Blue Springs merchants (on Main Street between 10th and 12th Streets) will open their doors for some trick-or-treating, games, crafts, and even a haunted maze during the Boo Springs Harvest Fest. Admission is free to all.
- October 31 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Kids ages 10 and under are invited to visit Vesper Hall for its annual Trick-Or-Treat Street. Wear your costume, join in some holiday crafting and activities, and bring a bag to collect lots of goodies!
