Jesse James Leaves Circulation Desk
April 12, 2011
Jesse James won't be staring down on patrons from behind the circulation desk at the Mid-Continent Public Library-Kearney Branch much longer.
The library will be closed May 2 -15 to undergo enhancement, and the pictures of Jesse, as well as those of gravestones of various James and Younger family members and the coward Bob Ford, will most likely be enhanced right off the library's walls.
The nine pictures, mounted in barn wood frames, were donated to the library nearly a decade ago by a Kearney-area patron who wanted the city's favorite son displayed in the library. The pictures are photocopied images from 19th century magazine covers and books, and modern photos taken in various cemeteries.
The pictures may find a home somewhere else in the library after the enhancement according to Angela Gillette, Kearney Branch manager, but patrons can breathe a sigh of relief. Jesse's eyes won't be following them when they come to pay their fines anymore.
