I've Read That Movie
June 16, 2010
Are your children nagging you to go see a movie this summer? One that all of their friends have seen and are raving about? Many popular movies are based on books. A great experiment and eye opener to try with your children is to read the book aloud or have them read the book before seeing the movie. Your children will appreciate the book and love reading more than ever before!
A recent conversation with a staff member reminded me why I prefer to see the movie before reading the book. If I read the book before I see the movie, I am always disappointed with the movie. I’m sure your children will agree after their experiment!
MCPL has a database in the Reader’s Advisory section of the online catalog entitled Based on the Book. It is a compilation of over 1,250 books, novels, short stories, and plays that have been made into motion pictures. Utilizing the Internet Movie Database as the authority, all movies in this collection have been released as feature-length films in the United States, in English, since 1980. Check out this database, read the book, then go see the movie! I’m sure you’ll agree; the book is always better!
