It's Time to Vote for Your Favorite Building Block Award Nominee
September 05, 2013
On September 1st, voting started for the ten Building Block Award nominees. The Building Block Award is administered by the Youth Services Community of Interest from the Missouri Library Association. Each year, they present an award to the author and illustrator of the picture book voted most popular by preschool children in Missouri's public libraries. The award, established in 1966, is designed to encourage reading aloud to children, birth through kindergarten.
Building Block Award nominees are selected each year by children's librarians across Missouri for their fun and colorful appeal. The stories are humorous and make great read aloud titles for parents and caregivers.
Voting runs thru December 31, 2013. This gives everyone time to hear the stories in storytimes at your favorite branch. Voting is fun and easy; after reading or listening to all the nominees, just look for a ballot while you are at the library and cast your vote.
The Building Block Award book winners and past nominees also make great read alouds, so look for them when you are visiting your local branch. Don't worry about locating them; branch staff are ready and willing to help you find them on your visit. In fact, if you ask, I bet they will tell you which ones are their favorites. I know I have quite a few myself. Once you discover them, I know you will want to read them all.
